Tesla Coils
Hello there! This time my blog will discuss about Tesla
Coils, its origin and how they work in the first place.
Tesla Coil was invented by Nikola Tesla in 1891 – that’s why
the device has his name, and was shown in a presentation by him. Scientists
were amazed by this eye-opener invention.
Nikola got the idea from an 1826
invention that could amplify electricity via a wire current. He improved this
idea and magnified it as to have the complete setup for a modern amplifier. To
this day, it is used as an alternative for an amplifier. However, now there are
other electric amplifiers that may be more effective.
The Tesla Coil is very famous for being able to easily
discharge massive amounts of electricity in a short amount of time. The device
has the ability to reach discharges of several million volts. Many scientists
use this coil to release electricity into the air for experiments,
entertainment, museum exhibitions, and special effects. Some even create a mini
Tesla Coil that usually discharges 9 – 60 volts.
In scientific terms, the Tesla Coil is a radio frequency
oscillator that drives a double-tuned resonant transformer to produce high
voltages with low currents. In more simple terms, it’s an electric coil that
uses a curled wire and a rod to generate electricity.
By coiling around, it creates a sort of double current that
will only flow through the wire. When it finishes charging up it will travel to
the ball on the top and discharge a large amount of electricity. There are also
larger Tesla coils that use external tools to generate even more currents. The
latter are used mainly for large structures, experiments, or just to show off.
Please note that Tesla Coils are potentially dangerous devices and
precautions must be taken before every operation to prevent possible damage to
property, living thing, or even death. Unqualified personnel must never be
allowed to operate the Tesla
Coil.
